When it comes to planning, designing, and even experiencing your wedding day, each couple is uniquely different and is in search of a special “vibe” that defines who they are, as individuals and in their relationship.
While I am a big believer in each wedding having personal touches, pulling on the bride and groom's personality, and ignoring any traditions or “norms” they don’t see fit—it is impossible to ignore the “trends” we see on social media and pull inspiration from those ideas so prominently displayed on our Pinterest feeds.
So there’s a chance some of you don’t agree with all of these, but this is my list of 2024 wedding in’s and out’s.
IN’S:
Baby’s breath: a cheap yet beautiful option to spruce up decor, centerpieces, and bouquets.
Changing dresses: especially if you opted for a larger option for your ceremony dress and don’t want to feel weighed down or restricted; a second dress option that lets you feel free and puts you more in your “party” vibe is the way to go.
Flip Flops for guests: no one wants to be in heels all night, and most people hesitate at going barefoot, especially if they are also wanting to go outside.
Late-night snacks: dinner is usually within the first hour of the reception, and after a few drinks, who doesn’t love a good hot pretzel, ice cream station, or even Chick-fil-A delivery!
Disposable cameras / disposable app: a great way to get your guests interacting and involved without pulling them off the dance floor.
Interactive guest book alternatives: I’m not gonna go too far into this one because there will be a whole feature post on these in the coming few weeks, but an interactive guest book outside of your traditional sign-in book with pictures in it is one of my favorite ways to add unique personalized touches to your wedding; and the best part is they often become keepsakes or home decor to actually use!
Hiring, at minimum, a day-of coordinator: I am not saying choose me, but choose someone; someone who makes you feel confident and that you trust with executing your day to perfection; there are more complexities to a wedding day than most people realize, and the last thing you want is you or anyone you love wracking their brain to solve problems on the wedding day that they have never before faced; partner with experts that fit your budget, needs, style, and vibe!
OUT’S:
Kids at the reception: let’s be honest, especially with an open bar, is anyone really DYING to have them there anyway?
Uncomfortable heels: I am all for brides buying designer heels to use in their flat lay or take pictures in; but let’s all stop pretending they’re comfortable or not killing our feet as we attempt to walk around the grounds in a short amount of time to capture our photos; let’s bring back comfort!
Doing things literally ANYONE but you and your partner want for that day: while we all succumb to the pressures of entertaining or processing the funnel of opinions from parents, family members, and friends, in 2024, we are prioritizing the couple and ONLY the couple when it comes to wedding day decisions.
Unresponsive vendors: if you are in the industry, you are offering services for the biggest and most memorable day of people’s lives, treat that with the respect it deserves <3
